What is Equity Release?
Releasing equity allows you to access the value held up in your home and turn it into money you can spend as you wish. You could unlock tax-free cash for home improvements, repay debts, medical needs or even for a holiday of a lifetime.
How much equity you can release depends on your age, how much your property is worth and how much you choose to borrow. If you are retired, you may be equity rich but cash poor, so having a lump-sum or a number of smaller amounts could be beneficial to your needs.
People over 55 often have little or no outstanding mortgage and lots of value tied up in their home. If you are wanting a long-term solution to any financial difficulty, or just a helpful payout, releasing equity could be the difference between just surviving, or enjoying your later years.
I’m a member of the Equity Release Council and recommend products covered by their rules.
This is a lifetime mortgage. To understand the features and risks, please ask for a personalised illustration. Check that this mortgage will meet your needs if you want to move or sell your home or you want your family to inherit it. If you are in any doubt, seek independent advice.
What can Equity Release be used for?
Equity release could help in either of these situations:
- Release cash from your home without moving out;
- Receive your cash as a lump sum, as an income or both;
- Use the money to spend as you wish;
- No need to make monthly repayments (but some providers give you the option);
- Plans are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA);
- We only advise on plans from providers who are members of the Equity Release Council.
